  Hi Mikko

  I just stumbled upon this meme through Ignacio’s blog and read all of the contributions. It made some good reading for my vacation! I really appreciate that so many of your friends and friends’ friends have decided to spend some time to share their wisdom with us. (”I usually don’t participate in memes…” was a common phrase to start with I’m sure there are many like me who will find this useful and most likely you will also learn from each other.

  BTW, though I’ve been here before I hadn’t noticed that the picture on your blog is from a barn-raising - how appropriate for an open source blog! Where did you find the picture?

  While translating my book about Open Source to English, “barn raising” ie “Talkoot” was one of the most difficult concepts to translate. As a Finn it is weird to think that almost all languages seem to lack the concept of Talkoot, ie voluntary common work that is done together. Even the American barn raising, though basically the same thing, is strictly linked to the historical event of building barns, and thus a more limited concept than Talkoot which can be done to build or produce anything.
