Mobile phones communications

For a technobedouin, mobile communications are essential. You can cover almost the whole planet with one Teliasonera SIM card. The problem is that roaming calls cost you the earth. They are so expensive in many countries that even in big companies employees need to get authorisation from above to acquire a roaming connection. It still makes me dizzy to think about the Nokia or Ericsson mobile costs my team incurred a couple of years ago.

I’m sure there are many ways to beat the problem, but here are some tools I use:
- Several SIM cards for use in different countries
- Call transfers via the internet
- A Finnish access number

In practise: When in a country where you operate for a reasonable degree, go into a mobile phone shop and buy yourself a local operator’s SIM card (prepaid or post-paid, doesn’t matter, unless you are in the country constantly, in which case it’s worth setting up a direct debit for the post-paid card, and you need to be able to monitor the charges).

Next, you can buy a Skypein number at Skype for countries in which you have customers, friends and family. People who want to talk to you just pay a landline call charge to call you.

Then go to Skype and choose a call transfer from your Skypein number to the mobile number you are using at the time. The call transfer will cost you from a few eurocents up to a few dozen eurocents a minute. Way cheaper than roaming calls.

Lastly, you can visit Rebtel and get local numbers in different countries for all your main contact people for when you need to contact them. In addition, wherever there is a broadband connection, you can also use Skypeout calls.

With the above tips you can slash up to 90 per cent off your bills. For those who travel a lot it means savings of thousands of Euros, and even for the smallest company, savings of tens of thousands of Euros a year.

Teknobeduiinin käsikirja: Kännykkäkommunikaatio

Teknobeduiinielämässä mobiilikommunikaatio on merkittävässä roolissa. Koko planeetan pystyy lähestulkoon peittämään tänä päivänä yhdellä Teliasoneran SIM -kortilla. Ongelma on vain se, että roamingpuhelut tulevat törkeän kalliiksi. Ne ovat niin kalliita useissa maissa, että isommissakin yhtiöissä pitää saada aika korkealta organisaatiosta hyväksyntä, että saa liittymän, jossa roamingpuhelut toimivat. Vieläkin huimaa, kun ajattelee parin vuoden takaisia Nokian tai Ericssonin puhelinkuluja tiimissäni.

Tapoja on varmasti monia, mutta itse hyödynnän seuraavia työkaluja:

• Useita SIM -kortteja eri maassa
• Puhelunsiirtoa internetin kautta
• Suomalaista access puhelinnumeroa

Eli käytännössä kuinka tämä toimii: Kävele kussakin maassa, jossa operoit enemmän puhelinkauppaan ja osta SIM -kortti paikalliselle operaattorille (prepaid tai postpaid, ei liene väliä, paitsi, että jos et ole ko. maassa jatkuvasti, postpaidissa on syytä olla suoraveloitus päällä ja laskun kokoa on syytä jotenkin pyrkiä seuraamaan).

Sen jälkeen voit Skypessä ostaa itsellesi Skypein -numerot maissa, joissa sinulla on eniten asiakkaita, ystäviä ja perhettä. Sinua tavoittavat henkilöt voivat siis soittaa sinulle tavallisen lankapuhelunumeron hinnalla Skypein -numeroosi.

Tämän jälkeen mene Skypeen, ja valitse sieltä soitonsiirto sen hetkisen maan kännykkänumeroosi Skypein -numerostasi. Joudut maksamaan soitonsiirrosta muutamista eurosenteistä muutamiin kymmeniin eurosentteihin minuutilta. Hakkaa roamingpuhelut 5-0.

Lopuksi voit käydä Rebtelistä hakemassa valmiiksi eri maista edulliset paikallispuhelunumerot kaikille pääkontakteillesi silloin kun sinun tarvitsee soittaa heille. Kaikissa paikoissa joista löytyy laajakaista voit hyödyntää sen lisäksi Skypeout -puheluita.

Näillä ohjeilla voit pudottaa puhelukustannuksia jopa 90%. Enemmän matkustelevalle se tarkoittaa nopeasti tuhansien tai pienellekin yritykselle se tarkoittaa jopa kymmenien tuhansien eurojen säästöä vuositasolla.
